Freud on religion

January 2018.

Whilst I fully support any rejection of religion and any opposition to religion, I feel that Fraud's analysis of what religion consists of was dogmatic and basically mistaken. His prophecy of its inevitable demise, whilst possibly true, and, indeed, hopefully true, is not necessarily scientific.
I believe that his dismissal of religion was not necessary, helpful or original.
He may have been right in his dismissal of religion, but his actual analysis of religion is incorrect and too deeply involved in his fundamentally flawed overall view of human life.
Overall, Fraud's work is still fundamentally a load of bullshit, like religion itself.
I seek to reject and move beyond irrational thinking of all kinds, and I feel that Fraud's thinking is, in all its manifestations, an obvious and glaring example of irrational thinking.
I still believe that this blog is a fully justified and serious comment on the work of Fraud.

Many psychologists and philosophers have crticized Freud.

Perhaps most famously, Karl Popper (1902-1994), the excellent philosopher of science, suggested that Freud's theories were not scientific because they were not capable of being falsified.

The word “psycopath” is entirely meaningless and entirely fake.
As you will realise if you consider this.
Not just partly – entirely.
This is only a part of the fallibility of European thought – as exemplified by “thinkers” like Sigmund Fraud.

It can't be said enuff

It needs to be said. It can't be said enuff. Not only was Sigmund Freud not one of the greatest intellectuals of all time. He was furthermore FULL OF SHIT!

All of his writings are absolute nonsense -without any import. Nothing that he said had any lucidity. And nothing that he said is of any benefit to science or filosofy.

Copernicus, Darwin,......Freud?

Copernicus, Darwin,.... Freud?

Freud said that these three thinkers - he astonishlingly included himself - were the three most important deflators of human vanity in all time.

Since each one had supposedly given (European) humanity a very big blow to its grand view of itself. Each one had given humanity a historic humiliation. Firstly, Copernicus's discovery that the Earth was not the centre of the universe. Secondly, Darwin's discovery that humankind was just another member of the animal kingdom, and thirdly Freud's discovery of... nothing whatsoever.

Er.

If you ask me, I personally think that Copernicus and Darwin did indeed discovere things that humiliated humanity and changed its view of itself, and they both stand the test of time as well.

But Freud was something quite different.

Freud discovered nothing whatsoever. So struck no blow to human vanity at all.

Freud had nothing to say.

And what is perhaps worse, he believed with some intensity that he had a lot to say.

The only way that Freud struck a view to human vanity was by prooving how easily humanity can be misled!

If anything I would replace Freud with Szasz in this three-part sequence of thinkers who deflated human vanity - because Szasz pointed out the obvious truth that should today be more acknowledged - calling other people "mad" is nothing but bullying. That is a genuine blow to human vanity that is sorely needed.
